Soaring train whistle synth lines and driving beats stoke yearning for the glory days of steam power. Once Great Western is a hauntological exploration of lost industry and grief taking a range of musical influences from vaporwave (for 10x extra vaporwave vibes - check out the Beeching Report Mix) through to hip hop via Boards of Canada, Nordic Noir TV Themes and more.
The cover is a still taken from the video which features a train journey evoking the ebb and flow of progress through its use of landmarks from different eras. A tracking shot of the brutalist Trellick Tower is followed by an arrival into London's Paddington Station, the terminus for trains from the West Country. Archive and contemporary footage of Brunel's Victorian masterpiece are contrasted, its present state now devoid of steam.
This is the first single taken from the debut album from Tomorrow's Child, Beach Ghosts, set for release later this year. The Album tracks created between 2018 and 2020 explore grief, memory and environment.
